ATSIEB Elections 2017

 

The ACT Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders Elected Body 2017 election is being conducted to elect 7 members to the Elected Body for a three year term.

All Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders aged 18 or over and living the ACT are eligible to vote.

The Elected Body was established by the ACT Legislative Assembly under the ACT Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elected Body Act 2008 to enable Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders in the ACT to have a strong democratically elected voice. In recognition of the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to freely determine their political status and to freely pursue their  economic, social and cultural development in line with the rights to self- determination, the Elected Body is enabled to give a voice to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Canberrans.

Its members represent the interests and aspirations of the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community. It provides direct advice to the ACT Government with the ambition of improving the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Canberrans.

Elections are conducted every three years to elect 7 members to the Elected Body

Electoral rolls close 5pm Monday 19 June 2017
Appointment of liaison officers and review panel members Before 1 July 2017
Voting starts 9 am Saturday 1 July 2017
Postal vote applications must be received by Elections ACT for processing 5 pm Thursday 6 July 2017
Last voting day 6 pm Saturday 8 July 2017
Last day for receipt of postal votes 5pm Friday 14 July 2017
Review Panel meets to review postal votes and other decisions Before 5 pm Friday 24 July 2017
Scrutiny starts Not earlier than Wednesday 19 July 2017
Election result declared As soon as practicable after the scrutiny ends
