Invitation to 25th Anniversary of the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody Commemorative Forum

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elected Body (ATSIEB) and the ACT Council of Social Service (ACTCOSS) warmly invite you to attend our forum commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody.

Hear from our guest speakers, Professor Mick Dodson AM (Director, ANU National Centre for Indigenous Studies & Professor of Law, ANU College of Law), Ms Louise Taylor (Deputy CEO, Legal Aid ACT) and Ms Sharon Payne (Expert consultant on Aboriginal justice and community safety), and join in the discussion.

The forum will be interactive, with Q&A and small group discussions. The groups will discuss current issues in the justice system for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and how they should be addressed. The discussion will form the basis of a short paper we will present to the ACT Government.

We hope that you are able to participate in this free event which will be held 12.00pm-3.30pm, Thursday 16 February 2016 at the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Centre, 245 Lady Denman Drive, Yarramundi Reach.

To RSVP please visit the ACTCOSS Eventbrite page or call Lisa Howatson (ACTCOSS) on 02 6202 7200. If you can’t make it on the day please send comments or suggestions to actcoss@actcoss.org.au or atsieb@act.gov.au .
