MEDIA RELEASE – New member welcomed to ATSIEB

The ACT Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elected Body welcomes the election of Ms Paula McGrady as a member of ATSIEB.

ATSIEB chair Ms Katrina Fanning said Ms McGrady was formally elected to fill a casual vacancy after the resignation of Mr Ross Fowler.

Vacancies on ATSIEB are filled by distributing the votes of the former member. In effect, those voters who voted for Mr Fowler determine his replacement.

After the formal declaration of candidates, a distribution of the votes received by Mr Fowler took place at the ACT Electoral Commission earlier today.

Following the distribution of preferences, Ms Paula McGrady was declared elected to fill the casual vacancy.

Ms McGrady is proud Kamilaroi and Goomeri person from Moree and Toomelah in mid Northern NSW. Ms McGrady currently works for Bimberi Youth Justice Centre as a Family Engagement Officer (Community Services Directorate) and prior to Bimberi had a long history of working in the Community Sector for over 15 years, working in areas of Education (NSW), Family and Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault.
