Expression of interest: Aboriginal Community Representatives – Interim Aboriginal–Government Joint Management Committee for Boomanulla Oval

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elected Body (ATSIEB) is seeking Expressions of Interest (EOI) from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members to join the Interim Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander–Government Joint Management Committee for Boomanulla Oval. This Committee will guide the Oval’s interim operations and help transition it to full Aboriginal Community Management.

Purpose

To identify ACT Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members with the skills, experience, and commitment to help shape the future of Boomanulla Oval as a culturally safe and community-led space for sport, culture, health, and youth development.

Available roles

Up to 4 Aboriginal community representative positions are available. Members will provide leadership, community voice, and guidance on the cultural, sporting, and operational use of Boomanulla Oval.

One position is allocated for a representative of the Ngunnawal community.

One representative from the ATSIEB will also be on the committee.

The committee will be co-chaired between one community representative and one Government delegate.

Role Responsibilities

Members will:

  • contribute to decisions about the use, maintenance, and activation of Boomanulla Oval
  • ensure Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, identity, and community priorities remain central
  • provide community perspectives on programs, partnerships, and activation activities
  • support the development of a long-term governance and sustainability plan
  • attend monthly meetings and review key documents and plans.

Commitment

Term is until 30 June 2027.

Meetings held every month, with additional sessions as required.

Sitting fees and expense reimbursements will be paid in line with Government remuneration policies.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
  • have a demonstrated connection to the ACT Aboriginal community
  • be available to participate regularly in meetings and activities
  • bring skills or experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • Cultural leadership and community connection
    • Governance and accountability
    • Sport and recreation
    • Youth engagement or health and wellbeing
    • Asset management or business planning

Selection process

  • Expressions of Interest will be assessed by a selection panel including ATSIEB representatives.
  • The panel will consider gender, age, and community representation.
  • Recommendations will be endorsed by ATSIEB.

  • a short statement (up to 500 words) outlining their interest and relevant experience
  • a brief resume or background summary (up to 2 pages) focused on experience relevant to the role of this committee
  • contact details for at least one ACT based Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community referee.
