Each year, the ACT Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elected Body holds Hearings with ACT Government directorates to check how well they’re delivering for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Canberra.

From 25 to 27 August 2026, ATSIEB members will question directorate representatives on their programs, funding, and progress, covering everything from health and education to justice, housing, and community services. Community consultations have informed the priorities that ATSIEB members will put forward as issues.

These Hearings are one of the main ways ATSIEB holds government to account. They give community members a direct line of sight into what’s being delivered, what’s working, and where more needs to be done, and they help make sure Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices shape the decisions that affect them.
