This representative body was established to enable Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders in the ACT to have a strong democratically elected voice.
It was established under the ACT Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elected Body ACT 2008. It consists of 7 people representing the interests and aspirations of the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.
It provides direct advice to the ACT Government with the ambition of improving the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Canberrans, a step towards true reconciliation.

Office for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Affairs have organised to meet with the Cooking Group to discuss the renewal of the next ACT Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Agreement. We are interested in hearing from the group about ‘what is important to them and their family’ and ‘what would they like to see in the next Agreement’.
CALENDAR VIEWThe Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elected Body acknowledges the Ngunnawal people as the traditional custodians of Canberra and celebrates their ongoing culture and contribution to the ACT and region. The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elected Body also acknowledges that many other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples from across Australian have now made Canberra their home and we also acknowledge and celebrate their cultures and diversity and their contribution to the ACT and region.
